Altered Bird House

This is an indoor bird house but you could paint it up to be used outside just make sure you use waterproof paints {ask at a DIY store} and hang it outside.

To alter this birdhouse you need:

  • A bird house {available from many craft outlets}
  • Distress inks
  • Stamps
  • Scissors
  • Colouring medium
  • Glue
  • Gesso
To make the birdhouse you need to first cover the wooden birdhouse in gesso this will help make the ink a more vibrant colour and is a mistake I made when altering mine.  Then using your applicator of choice {I use inkilicious ink brushes} apply your choice of colour{s} of distress ink to the bird house.

NB: you may need to add multiple layers of ink to build up the colour

Then stamp and colour the stamps of your choice if you wish to add embellishments.  I used leaves and a bird.  Now cut the stamps out and using either a glue gun or pva glue adhere the stamped images to where ever you want them.

Here are some pics of mine.
